So my deadline for the miners project was Wednesday the 12th December at 4.00pm. I managed to put all my work out but was a little late 😦 however all my lovely friends helped out and did me proud :).

I have to say it is the best work I have ever done, something I am very proud of. I will definitely be doing something along the same lines for my final major project. Have a look at the photo’s.

Urban Textures….

I visited a derelict site yesterday and it had the most awesome textures. In some cases it looked like there had been murals painted on the walls because the textures were so beautiful.

The cracks created depth within the walls and they had orange and blue colours running through them. I managed to capture some great shots 🙂

Derelict Prints…..

I have been working with Photoshop a lot and have created some interesting and brightly coloured prints. They have been merged with unique textures I have found in derelict buildings.

These are photos I have taken of textures I like. They are made up from broken glass and a build up of calcium found in a derelict place.

I really enjoy making the “ugly” beautiful 🙂

Vegetarianism, Veganism and the Environment……

I stumbled across this guy Chris Jordan who is a photographer but specializing in concept photography. His pieces stood out for me as I remembered a conversation I had today with a vegetarian.

It isn’t just about not eating meat to save the animals and to stop being cruel to animals etc, it is also about how we are all treating the environment. We all consume things that we don’t need. We all rush out to buy the latest products and fashions without regarding the waste that we all are creating.

I watched a documentary on the Vice channel and they went to the ocean near japan and took samples of the water there. It was full of deteriorated plastics, the ocean had literally turned into jelly.

All I am saying Is that people who jump down other peoples throats about eating meat, please open your eyes up to the other factors that have the same affect on animals. Do your research and understand what you can do to stop these poor animals consuming so much litter and plastic. We can all make a change.

Above is the link to the Vice documentary, watch it!

What A Hero…..

Winston Smith is an absolute hero, his surrealist art has pushed boundaries since the 1970’s. His work still receives a lot of negative attention, however his work really inspires me. It’s artists like this that need to be influencing people! Why aren’t we taught about artists like this? People seem to brush the truth under the carpet because they don’t want to disturb their mindless insignificant lives.

I would have loved to learn about artists like this when in school. Anyway he is a hero, in my book and in a lot of other people’s books. An artist who gets frustrated with the way society is, an artist who shows this through his work. Around of applause for Mr Winston Smith!!!! 🙂

Derelict Coke Works….

So for my current uni project I decided to study the coal mining industry. I visited loads of coal mines with my boyfriend, some derelict and some that have turned into museums.

I love macro photography, so I went around and took loads of pictures that I found interesting. The coke works was by far the most interesting as it was full of great things. I hope to go back soon and discover more weird and wonderful things.

Cefn Coed Coal Museum….

I went to visit the museum today as I am studying welsh coal miners. Recently I have become very interested in welsh mining and everything about it. I have been to the Big Pit museum and thought it would be a good idea to travel to Neath to see the other coal mining museum.

The place was empty so it was real nice to have the place to ourselves more or less. There was even a guy there who gave me some information about the coal miners family and the work history.

The place was full of little wonders, loads of little details that I captured with my camera too. 🙂
