inThis term we have been given a digital print project, the brief being to represent skin. I feel that this brief is completely open and I can run with it. So i have decided to focus on petals and texture, texture from exterior walls and flaking paint, moss and weeds. My representation for this comes from the petals being the skin of the flower (the protector) and the texture of buildings, walls being the appearance and feel of skin, whether it being animals or humans.
I have a great interest of different things, especially things that aren’t instantly pretty to the eye but are still naturally beautiful. I found these great petals in my boyfriends garden, they had fallen off the tree and where fermenting slowly on the ground. To me it looked like the flowers had turned slightly gold on the edges, so i picked them up and began taking pictures of them. I have recently learnt how to use Photoshop so i have lightened up these images to create a more dramatic look.
These are both images of the petals i found, I love the curled up edges and the softness the pink creates. Below is an image I have played around with in Photoshop, i want to make it a repeat pattern and eventually print it out on fabric.

inWe had a textile trip to Stroud to go and visit a textile festival. The festival was on for about a month and included some great textile work. I was quite lucky to have a tour around a designers studio, she took me around and showed me some of her work. If I had more time I would have liked to visit Cirencester and look the the exhibitions there, however we didn’t have much time.
I loved walking around Stroud and looking through all the vintage clothes shops and quaint little book shops. I purchased an amazing Alexander Mcqueen book, it’s filled with his amazing creations and a intimate interview with Sarah Burton. I have become a great fan of Mcqueen, especially his digital print collection.
I love this pieces by Mcqueen, i like both prints equally and yet they are so different. I want to create a range of interesting patterns to transform into unique digital prints.
I stumbled across a new menswear designer Michael Kampe, he creates a new dimension into menswear. I have never really been interested in mens fashion, but this guy has a lot of talent. I am drawn to prints that consist of bright colours and also clothes that have blasts of clouds and lightening within them. Take a look at some of his garments……..
Great prints that show some awesome weather conditions and beautiful skies. Even though I am a textile student I am still a huge fan of fashion and costume, one of my all time favorites being Gareth Pugh! I am a great fan of black and white, so his collections stand out for me. I love his architectural pieces, they are very different to anything i have seen before.

inI stumbled across this amazing artist called Melanie Bowles. Her work is breathtaking, especially her digital Sibori scarves. In uni today we were given the task to look at this website “Lab Craft” and research into the artists. It is a great site with amazing unique styles of all different types of art.
I loved Melanie Bowles blog, she includes a lot of digital art and fashion, something that I am very fond of.
This is an image of the digital Sibori by Melanie Bowles. I have created many Sibori samples but to create the same technique digitally blows my mind, I love it!
