I have just finished a two year national diploma in fashion and textiles, leaving with a very good grade, I’m very proud of what I produced so I thought I might as well post some pics of it.
I like to work with issues close to my heart and what interests me, so for my final major project I specialised in the weight issue. I researched size zero and my size which is a size 16, they are both opposite sides of the spectrum. I always work from myself and use myself as the model as you will always be on time haha!
I wanted to convey the difference between size zero and me. So I plaster cast my belly along with a friend of mine who is a teeny size zero, the difference was crazy. For the size zero piece I used hand dyed fabrics and bits of tape measure and labels from shops to create the skinny look, I used labels from shops like ‘Topshop’ and ‘Allsaints’ as they don’t stock my size so I wanted people to be aware of this.
For the size 16 mould I used fleshy coloured fabric and stuffed them with wadding to create a fat, bulging look. The whole project was quite controversial and i had a lot of fun taking and gathering questionnaires from the public.
Throughout my future projects I hope to carry on with this subject as I think there is a lot to research and study, also for me to push the boundary further.
